Emily Holliday: FInal Argument.
Both Bronte's Wuthering Heights and Austen's Pride and Prejudice embody literary concepts and tools, however i believe that Austen does a better job of connecting with the reader through her writing and that is why I think we should study Pride and Prejudice. Austen perfectly uses the literary elemnt of satire, and honestly satire seems to be more easily understood and more easily taught to teenage girls. We all undersand sarcasm extremely well. Bronte has deeper and more complex characters, however i believe that the satire and the concept of love the way Austen portrays it is a better suit for a St. Mary's classroom. The characters in Pride and Prejudice are definitely more relatable than those of Wuthering Heights. We would all have to be depressed and full of spite and revenge to be able to fully understand and appreciate Bronte's characters. To understand Austen's style of writing and her meaning, one simply needs to have a sense of humor and a very light understanding of love and how silly it can make women act. Therefore i believe that at St. Mary's we should learn about Jane Austen's Prode and Prejudice becuase of her perfect embodiment of satire through her Characters and the games they play with love and men. Also, i would love to hear what Mrs. Goodman has to say about how Ridiculous her characers are.

Emily,
Ha! Well, you probably *would* enjoy my comments about P and P, but, honestly, it feels like you almost contradict yourself here. If P and P is easier for you girls to understand, then shouldn't we spend more class time on WH? You need to account for that in your argument. Do you really believe that only depressed, spiteful, and vengeful people can understand WH? This is something that your opponent would jump on right away.
Good job.
Mrs. G
